Programming a website and deploying it to the cloud

I was in need of somewhere to keep a store of creative projects. There are many services that make it easy to launch a site without code. In fact I had previously been using Wordpress.

However... That's boring!

For a long time I have wanted to be able to code a website from scratch. Rather than just taking a website off the shelf. So that is what I set out to do.

This site was written in the Python programming language using the Django framework before being deployed to the cloud. Django is what underpins the websites of YouTube, Pinterest, Spotify and many others. Aside from being a learning experience, coding the site myself allows me much more ownership over it. And makes it possible to add additional fun bits and pieces.
